Kornfield Named Elizabeth W. Gilloon Professor of Chemical Engineering

The Institute has promoted Julia Kornfield to named professor in the Division of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.

She is the third professor to hold the Elizabeth W. Gilloon Chair, following Fred Anson and James Heath. Kornfield's research in polymer science applies physical insight to design new materials that address needs in safety and security, sustainability and human vision. She was recruited to the faculty in 1990 and was the first woman who earned her bachelor's at Caltech (Ch BS '83, ChE MS '84) to return as a professor.

This appointment recognizes Kornfield's scientific discoveries, teaching, and service to the Caltech community.  Congratulations, Prof. Kornfield.
